Insulating a Metal Garage in Mattaponi, VA
Challenge
Our customer built a new metal garage and was looking for options to insulate it so that they could use it as a workshop. The garage is 2,300 square feet, with all metal walls and ceiling. They already have a mini-split system installed in the space as well.
Solution
The best way to insulate this building us by using spray foam insulation. It will adhere to just about anything, fills all the nooks in the construction of the building, and at 1.5 inches thick, this closed-cell spray foam product is a vapor retarder and air barrier.
First, we draped any equipment, light fixtures, electrical boxes, etc. to protect it. We installed blockers at the soffit to prevent the spray foam from oozing out as it expands. We then installed 2 inches of closed-cell spray foam on the ceiling and 1.5 inches on the walls. This will allow the homeowner to reduce the heat transfer, keeping their new space comfortable while they work.
