The Inspection
Partially insulated was a good way to describe the space. In most areas, the insulation didn't fill the floor cavities, offering little resistance to heat transfer between the attic and living space.
Preparing for more insulation
Blockers and PVs are installed to prevent insulation from blocking the soffit vents while still providing proper ventilation for the roof deck.
Existing Storage decking.
The attic already had storage decking, but upon pulling it up, we found there was little insulation underneath.
Insulating under storage decking
Cellulose insulation is dense packed under the existing storage decking to provide additional R-value and still maintain the storage space.
Air Sealing
Existing insulation is moved to access top plates and utility penetrations for air sealing. Air sealing reduces the amount of conditioned air escaping from your living space into the unconditioned attic.
Cellulose Insulation
The areas of the attic where there is no storage decking are insulated overtop the existing insulation with a fresh blanket of cellulose.
