No Garage Insulation
On the right of the photo, you can see some of the insulation from the main attic has drifted over the garage space. The garage attic is not insulated or air sealed.
Air Sealing the Garage Attic
PVs, also known as proper vents, are the silver things you see on the slopes of the attic. These vents prevent the blown in insulation from blocking the soffit vents, maintaining ventilation for the roof. Air sealing is also done at all gaps and cracks, including utility penetrations and top plates. You can see this around the edge of the ceiling.
Blown-in Insulation
Cellulose often referred to as blown insulation, is installed throughout the attic space. With the air sealing, these products will help prevent air loss and heat transfer helping to protect the home from drafts, uneven temperatures, and high energy bills.
