Mildew/Mold in the Crawl Space
Mildew/Mold is a result of high relative humidity, warm temperatures, and an organic food source. Crawl spaces are the ideal environment for this to occur as warm humid air enters through open vents carrying moisture, and moisture from the earth gets trapped. The conditions are also ideal for pests and critters.
Unwrapped Piers
Unwrapped piers are a source for moisture and pests to enter the crawl space from the earth.
6 mil vapor barriers
6 mil vapor barriers are what is required at construction for a vented crawl space. However, it does not do an effective job of sealing the crawl space off from the earth's moisture. It is not sealed where the seams overlap, it is not sealed to the piers or the walls.
CleanSpace Vapor Barrier
The CleanSpace vapor barrier is installed. All seams are overlapped and sealed, the liner is fastened to the walls 6-8 inches above outside grade, and it is wrapped and sealed around all piers. This completely seals the crawl space off from the earth's moisture.
Sealed Crawl Space Vents
Open crawl space vents allow air carrying moisture, pests, and rodents into the crawl space.
