Nasty Crawl Space
This crawl space is like many others in our area. It has high relative humidity, falling insulation, a torn and ineffective vapor barrier, open vents, mold / mildew, and isn't a healthy environment to have right under your feet.
Failing Vapor Barrier
At construction, most crawl spaces have a 6mil vapor barrier, it's similar to a trash bag. It isn't fastened to the crawl walls, and the seams aren't taped. It can be staked down, but that just creates holes in the liner. These liners don't protect your crawl space from the earth's moisture.
High Relative Humidity
This crawl space has a relative humidity of 82.9%, that's HIGH! This tells us there is a lot of moisture in this crawl space, absorbing into the joists and fiberglass insulation, and condensation on the walls.
Mold / Mildew on Crawl Space Joists
Mold / Mildew loves crawl spaces, especially ones in Midlothian and Greater Richmond. In the warmer months, our climate is humid and hot, and the crawl space is full of organic material, making it the perfect environment for mold / mildew to grow.
CleanSpace System
CleanSpace is a heavy-duty vapor barrier durable enough to be crawled on by service personnel. All the seams are overlapped and taped and fastened to the walls 6-8 inches above outside grade and all piers are wrapped. CleanSpace seals the earth off from the crawl space.
Friction Fit Door
The Friction Fit Door is developed by our team and a key piece in keeping out air carrying moisture. It also suffices building code for conditioned/encapsulated crawl spaces which requires a continuous R-10 of insulation on the crawl space walls. Without the TDC Friction Fit Door, there would not be a continuous R-10 on the walls.
Everlast Crawl Space Door
The Everlast crawl space door is an exterior PVC door that does not rust, rot, or warp.
