Crawl Space Encapsulation in Henrico, VA
Challenge
Our Henrico, VA homeowners wanted to make their home more energy-efficient to help save on their energy bills and make the home more comfortable. Part of this project included encapsulating the crawl space.
Solution
Mohammed and Hasan started by cleaning all of the debris and old vapor barrier out of the crawl space.
Then they installed a 10-mil CleanSpace vapor barrier sealing it at all seams, wrapping and sealing it around all piers, and attaching it to the foundation walls 6inches above outside grade. This seals the crawl space off from the earth's moisture and directs moisture coming through the foundation walls under the vapor barrier.
Next, they sealed the vents, penetrations through the foundation wall to the outside, and the sill plate to stop as much air carrying moisture from entering the crawl space as possible.
Mike and Daniel then applied closed-cell spray foam insulation to the foundation walls and the rim band. They installed a friction fit interior crawl space door and an everlast exterior door.
