Crawl Space Repair in Urbanna, VA
Challenge
Our Urbanna, VA client has had some mold and mildew concerns in their crawl space. Most of the vapor barrier is covered in dirt and debris. There is no insulation between the floor joists, but we do see some remnants, which tells us there was some insulation at one point. Moisture has been working its way through the foundation walls and microbial growth is occurring on the floor joists.
Solution
First, we remove all of the debris from the crawl space then treat the joists with an antimicrobial.
A 10-mil CleanSpace Vapor Barrier is installed, it is overlapped and sealed at all seams, wrapped and sealed around all piers, and attached to the foundation walls about 6 inches above outside grade.
The crawl space is air sealed by sealing all vents, the sill plate, all penetrations through the foundation wall to outside, and a Sanidry Sedona Dehumidifier is installed to help control relative humidity.
While we do not recommend leaving the crawl space uninsulated, the homeowner opted to hold off on insulating the crawl space until a later date.
