Attic Evaluation
Some areas of the attic had very little insulation, below an R-19, while others did reach in an R-19. This is typically a result of the insulation settling over time.
Not Enough Insulation
Not having enough attic insulation means that heat transfers between your attic and living space more easily. in the summer, the sweltering attic warms the ceiling of the rooms below and that heat warms the air in those rooms. In the winter, the warm conditioned air is rising and escaping into the cold attic and new cold air is being brought in at the bottom of the home to be heated again.
Original Insulation
This home is still insulated with the original insulation from construction, which has settled and drifted over time making it even less effective in keeping the homeowners comfortable. At construction attics aren't required to be air sealed either, allowing conditioned air to easily escape your living space into the unconditioned attic.
Cellulose Insulation
Cellulose insulation is added on top of the existing blown fiberglass insulation for a total R-value of R-49.
Storage decking
Even when insulating your attic with blown cellulose, utilizing the space for storage is still an option. Insulation can be installed around and under the decking.
