Blown-in Cellulose Insulation in Richmond, VA Attic
Challenge
This homeowner had little insulation in their attic and was experiencing high energy bills and uneven temperatures throughout their home.
Solution
We removed the old insulation and air sealed the attic with two-part foam. We sealed all the top plates, around any utility penetrations and behind the attic knee walls. This helps prevent conditioned air from escaping into the unconditioned attic. We then installed an R-38 of blown-in fiberglass insulation on the attic floor and behind the knee walls. The Cellulose Insulation we used is 85% recycled materials, such as newspaper, and 15% new materials, it also contains a borate solution that helps deter rodents. We also insulated and installed Tyvek on the knee walls to help make the adjoining rooms more comfortable.
Since the completion of the project, the homeowner has been experiencing lower energy bills and is more comfortable in their home.
