Musty Odors
The homeowners have been battling musty odors as a result of the water infiltration. They have used deodorizers to try and combat the smell, but it is not a solution to the problem.
Water Infiltration
Water seeps in through the block wall, between the wall and footer, and under the footer. As water seeps in it brings dirt, dust, and silt with it. Staining on walls and the floor, as well as chipped or bubbling paint, wall, and floor coverings, are an indicator of water infiltration problems.
Damaging Stored Items
The homeowners have lifted items onto blocks to help protect them from the water seeping into the home. The bottom of the cinderblocks in this photo are wet.
Wood Rot & Mold
Water has been seeping into the wood allowing it to grow mold and rot. All mold needs to grow is moderate temperatures and high relative humidity, which is supplied by the excess moisture coming into the basement. Wood rot can begin at 19% wood moisture content.
