Insulating a Sunroom Addition in Dendron, VA
Challenge
This Dendron, VA homeowner was adding a sunroom onto their home and was looking for options to insulate it. The home is on a raised, open foundation and the homeowners wanted to make sure they could use and be comfortable in the room, year-round.
Solution
After reviewing options with the homeowners, they determined that they wanted to use spray foam insulation for their project. Closed Cell Spray Foam offers both an air and vapor barrier at 1.5 inches thick.
We applied 3 inches of closed-cell spray foam to the subfloor of the addition. Insulating the floors helps reduce drafts and the impact of cold air and warm humid air through the floors. The walls are insulated with 2 inches of closed-cell foam. The homeowners will install drywall over the foam to finish the room. This approach air seals any gaps that naturally occurred during construction. 3 inches of closed-cell is applied to the slopes of the sunroom and the soffits are blocked. This will reduce the impact of radiant heat from the roof into the room in the summer and deter the loss of warm air in the winter. This solution will give the homeowners a comfortable space to spend their time.
