Heathsville, VA Crawl Space Encapsulation
Challenge
This Heathsville, VA crawl space had concerns with falling insulation, mildew/mold, a poor vapor barrier, and high humidity. The homeowner wanted to improve the condition of their crawl space.
Solution
We removed all the debris, fiberglass insulation, and existing vapor barrier the treated the mold on the joists with and antimicrobial and wipedown. We then installed the CleanSpace System covering the floor, wrapping all piers and running the liner up the walls 6-8 inches above outside grade. This directs any moisture that works its way through the block foundation behind the liner, keeping it out of the crawl space.
We then installed Foamax Foam Board insulation on the crawl space walls, sealing all the seams and sealing the insulation to the wall. We installed an interior friction fit door, that is behind the exterior crawl space door. The friction fit door provides a continuous R-10 of insulation on the crawl space walls and air seals behind the crawl space door, where a lot of air and moisture can find its way in. Lastly, we installed a SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier to control the relative humidity in the crawl space. We also placed a hygrometer sensor in the crawl space to monitor temperature and humidity and provided the homeowner with the receiver display so they can monitor their crawl space from inside their home.
