Saving Energy with Energy Star

Congratulations to Tyler Tetreault for helping 17 homes in Hampton Roads & Richmond become Energy Starcertified last year! This certification addresses several ways a home can be energy efficient. Homes have features like Energy Star rated appliances and fixtures. Tyler was involved in the blower door and duct testing part of the certification, which makes sure the air people pay to heat and cool isn’t leaked through hidden places in the home.

This not only translates into a lower operating cost for the home, but it means the home is more comfortable for the people living it. There are environmental benefits as well. Energy Star forecasts that the energy saved by these 17 homes is the equivalent to:

-Removing 6 passenger vehicles from the road

-Avoiding the consumption of 67 barrels of oil

-Growing 731 tree seedlings for 10 years
